16-time Olympic medalist Michael Phelps announced that he was dropping the 200m freestyle event from his program in London, meaning the international superstar will only be competing in seven (only!) events at the 2012 Games. The announcement was made through Phelps’ coach, Bob Bowman’s twitter account earlier today:
Phelps originally qualified to compete in the same eight events that he won in Beijing at the 2008 Olympic Games. The reduced load will give Phelps more time to rest and prepare in between events.
