In the 2012 ISU World Single Distance Speedskating Championship women’s 1500m race, Canada’s Christine Nesbitt brought home another victory in a season in which she has seemed indomitable.

Nesbitt, the World Cup overall champion, skated the three and three quarter lap race in a time of 1:56.07. The Netherlands’ Ireen Wust, who holds the track record in this distance, set the time to beat earlier in the day at 1:56.40 but her race could not stand up to Nesbitt’s blazing 25.0 second opening 300m.

Linda de Vries, also from the Netherlands, brought home the bronze medal in a time of 1:57.08.  The US’s Jilleanne Rookard was 17th after skating 2:00.41.  In a strange turn of events, top US 1500m skater Heather Richardson and her teammate Brittany Bowe did not compete in today’s race.
