With a dominating time in the combined run/shoot, Margaux Isaksen clinched an Olympic berth and the US’s second gold medal at the 2011 Pan Am games today in Modern Pentathlon . Isaksen won the morning’s fencing, winning 25 bouts with 7 defeats but was second behind Brazil’s Yane Marques in both the swim and the equestrian portions of the event. Isaksen trailed Marques by 20 seconds going into the combined running and shooting section.
Isaksen completed the final combined event in 12:38, the fastest time of the day, and nearly one minute ahead of Marques who finished 2nd overall. American Suzanne Stettinius also had a very strong combined run/shoot, finishing in 3rd after crossing the line in 13:06. Stettinius placed 7th overall.
