Last night, when I got home from the office, I saw a facebook message by a friend saying how much they would miss Speedy and how sad they were that he was gone.  I guess by now many people have heard the news that Jeret Peterson, known almost universally as ‘Speedy’, had taken his own life.  I’m not going to write much about his career or the details of his death, honestly, I don’t really want to write much of anything right now – but he was an incredible athlete.  He won a silver in Vancouver in his sport of aerial skiing, where athletes launch themselves off of a ramp flipping and twisting five stories in the air.

Most importantly Speedy was an amazing guy.  I don’t think I’ve ever heard anyone talk about him and not sound like they love him.  He was a blast to hang out with and he was amazingly loyal to his friends.  He was always open and friendly and I’m going to miss him.  Over the past couple of years Speedy has had some pretty tragic things happen in his life that no one deserves to go through.  My thoughts and prayers go out to all of his loved ones and the many, many friends who will love and miss him forever.
